I have never known or met any of my surf subjects. They are all chance encounters where the swell, light and surfer align perfectly. This is what I love about shooting surfing. You can't plan it like a photo shoot, you're at the whim of nature, which is unpredictable by definition. You have to be present, and in the right place at the right time. That's why capturing it feels so special. It is a genuine moment in time that will never be repeated. For me, this is the power of photography; to capture the spontaneous and unplanned. It is these moments that take our breath away with their beauty and mystery, which is what I seek to convey through my surf collection.
